Canopy Hotel, Hilton’s lifestyle brand opened its first West Coast property in in the Pearl District of Portland, where cobblestone streets and industrial loading docks juxtapose against galleries, boutiques, and cafes. The 10-story hotel features 153 rooms, event space and an artisanal restaurant. The hotel’s exterior design aimed to bridge the old with new buildings in the neighborhood by incorporating materials that complement the industrial history of the Pearl District. The concrete planes at the base of the building signify entrances. Custom aged bronze corrugated aluminum panels are alternated with full heigh glass windows to create a dynamic and reflective facade that change in color with natural daylight. The large expanses of glass at the building’s base create an inviting indoor-outdoor experience for passers-by. The rooftop terrace offers views of the City and Cascade Mountains. The hotel is aiming for LEED Gold certification.
