LA Biomed, or The Lundquist Institute, is an independent non-profit biomedical research organization. The newly constructed building houses both MDs and PhDs alike, but includes an “incubator” for up and coming biomedical startups contributing to the medical research community. The exterior soffits and walls are a custom woodgrain in plate panels, an industry standard. But due to their scale and placement, additional variation was needed in the grain to offer depth and texture, ensuring the surface didn’t look flat.
