The St Lawrence Martyr Church of Redondo Beach recently underwent a massive transformation, renovating the church’s structural components as well as its ornate interior. The design intent for the reredos, the ornamental screen covering the wall at the back of the altar, was to incorporate metals that would react beautifully with light, creating a glow from just behind the altar. This was accomplished with 3 finishes, in varying panel widths and lengths, in controlled but random pattern ensuring visual interest while still capturing the natural light.
